Bach / Blaha / Bartok - Solo Violin Sonatas
Bellen, Mathieu Van

Mathieu van Bellen was born in the Netherlands, and studied the violin from the age of four with Nico Baltussen, Jan Repko, Itzhak Rashkovsky and Ulf Wallin. Laureate of the Wieniawski, Menuhin, Prinses Christina and Oskar Back competitions, he has performed as a soloist and chamber musician, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Berlin Philharmonie and the Royal Festival Hall London.
Mathieu also regularly performs as a chamber musician with The Busch Ensemble, where he is the violinist, and has played with the National Orchestra of Belgium, Holland Symfonia and Camerata Athena. He plays on the 1783 ‘ex-
Adolf Busch’ G.B. Guadagnini violin.
Mathieu van Bellen: On this CD two of my ‘all-time favourites’: Bach ‘s second Partita (with the famous Chaconne) and Bartok’s Solo Sonate. The third piece is from the Zeeland composer Christian Blaha and makes a connection between
Bach and Bartok. I’m proud to present these works on my first solo CD and hope you'll enjoy it.
